I Told You To Wait (Blood On The Leaves)

Artist: Kanye West
Track Name: Blood On The Leaves
AH Track Rating:

Kanye West dropped Yeezus in 2013, which included Blood On the Leaves.

Using the drop from C-Murder’s Down for My Niggas, with Billie Holiday singing “Strange Fruit” for the hook. This was consciously woke Yeezy on this track right here. From a seriously underappreciated album. In so many ways, this song could easily be dedicated to Trayvon Martin who’s murder, was told to wait. Trayvon could have been somebody but, we’ll never know. Neither will his family. How long will black people be told to wait, for justice?

Without preaching us too much, Yeezy kept it light on this one, and let the hook speak to the issue.

Some of the lyrics at times, seem unrelated. In many ways, it’s how so many black people look for ways to take their minds off the very serious nature of existing in the US.

Blood On the Leaves, refers to the deep history of racism that America has yet to fully address.

The winds of its injustice continue to blow on the black community. 4 fists up!
