where gangster rap got it’s start

Straight outta Compton, NWA’s debut was so fire that they made a movie about it. The movie  really, and truly focused on the music more so than the individual stories of each rapper. However what these guys came together to do, would set the stage for gangster rap music.

The title track and video from NWA’s Classic Album.

This album was early commentary on life in the city of Compton. With tracks like Fuck the Police, Express Yourself, I Ain’t The One and so many more, NWA solidified themselves in hip hop history. While rapping about the conditions of L.A. in the 80’s these young rappers (at that time) were the hood news. There were other gangsta rap groups before them, and many came after. Few however, had the impact of NWA which continues to this day.

With clips from the Movie, starring Ice Cube’s son, Fuck Tha Police.
